Scholarship Eligibility
Step 1
Be a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior in high school.
Step 2
Live in Bennington County or the neighboring towns of Williamstown, Petersburgh, Hoosick, Hoosick Falls, White Creek, Cambridge, or North Adams.
Step 3
Perform two instrumental or vocal pieces from the standard repertoire, each not more than five minutes long, which demonstrate contrasting styles or techniques.
-
What is "standard repertoire"?Standard repertoire varies per instrument. Generally, stick to something classical, jazz, or musical theater.
-
What is performance attire?Aim for neat and presentable – something that would make your mom or grandma say, "Aww, you look so nice!" The industry standard is all black or black bottoms with a white top, though that's not required. Just keep in mind that you need to be comfortable enough that you won't be distracted from performing by your outfit.
-
Do I need to provide my own accompaniment?Yes, if you have a piece that requires accompaniment, please plan on providing your own. There is a piano at the church that can be used if you choose to have someone play for you. Alternatively, you can bring a track to perform along with. If you do plan to use a track, please let us know by Wednesday, April 3rd so we can make the necessary arrangements.
-
Can I do a sound check or practice performing in the space before auditions? We can't guarantee you'll have an opportunity to rehearse in the space beforehand. However, if you arrive early, you may have a few minutes to get a feel for the space.
-
Can my family come watch?Yes, please invite your friends and family to come and support you! The scholarship auditions are open to the public.
